04 Sep Exploring the world of work with the Work Experience
In order to enrich and complement the learning experience of St. Paul’s School students in the classrooms, the first year of Bachillerato offers them a pioneering project called “Work Experience,” which is part of the school’s career guidance program.
This program provides students with the opportunity to enter the workforce, learn new skills, and explore potential career paths by spending a week at a real company.
Why “Work Experience”?
Work Experience is an activity that is well-established and widely accepted in countries such as Great Britain and the United States. It has been shown to provide numerous benefits to students who participate in these experiences because it gives them a broader and more realistic insight into the current demands of the job market.
For us, this experience enriches our students´education by offering them many advantages compared to students from other schools:
- It helps them see and understand how people develop in their professional field.
For participating companies:
- It enhances the reputation of collaborating companies within the educational world of each region.
- It helps raise the profile of companies in the media space.
Work Experience Methodology
The Work Experience program is based on four main phases: preparation at school, a week of internships for students, an evaluation conducted by the company, and finally self-evaluation by the student.
The evaluation by the student’s mentor within the company, based on the following points:
- Attendance and punctuality
- Responsibility for the tasks performed
- Ability to integrate into work teams
- Demonstrated initiative
- Completion of tasks within the required timeframe
- Personal presentation
- Adherence to given instructions
- Positive attitude
